NOTE: This course is exclusively available to existing employees of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Clinical cannulation training is available, with an option to attend an extended session for venepuncture training, tailored to the requirements of the working area and individual learner needs.
Trainers: Registered Nurse Practitioners and Educators
Duration: 4 hours
Delivery: Face to face
Content: Mix of theory and practical
Course overview
This half-day training combines both classroom-based instruction and hands-on practice, providing learners with the essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to perform phlebotomy and insert peripheral venous catheters in adult patients.
The course is delivered through a balanced approach, incorporating both theory and practical sessions. Learners will gain valuable hands-on experience in a controlled and safe environment, practicing on adult simulation arms. This allows them to refine their techniques before applying them in clinical settings with re-assessment required every three years.
Please note that attending this course alone does not guarantee competency in adult cannulation and venepuncture. Managers are advised to ensure ongoing support and supervision for staff once they return to their clinical environments until they are fully signed off as competent. The required number of competencies for sign-off will vary depending on the individual organisation or business unit guidelines.
